- EcoBoost engines: listen for a rattle on a cold start. Cam phaser noise is a known issue on some EcoBoost engines.
- 10-speed automatic: feel for harsh or erratic shifts, especially at low speed.
- Underneath: check the frame, brake lines and hitch area for rust and towing wear.
- All years: read the full Carfax and run the VIN for open recalls.
