A used Kia Sportage in Canada lists for roughly $6,500 to $33,000 in October 2026. The years I'd target are a 2023 to 2025 car at about $19,500 to $33,000.

What does a used Kia Sportage cost in Canada?

These ranges are built from current average asking prices on CarGurus.ca across Canada, year by year. They cover the bulk of the market: a very high-kilometre car will sit below the range, and a nearly new, dealer-certified one at the top or above it.

Which Sportage generation should you buy?

2017 to 2022: cheap and cheerful

The fourth generation is comfortable and well equipped, with a 2.4L or a 2.0L turbo. It's cheap used, but the 2.4L needs its recall history checked.

2023 and newer: a big step up

The fifth generation is larger, much nicer inside, and adds an efficient hybrid with AWD. It competes directly with the RAV4 and CR-V.

Sportage pros and cons

What owners like

  • Lots of features for the money
  • The 2023 and newer hybrid is efficient and roomy
  • Long factory warranty if still in coverage

What owners complain about

  • Older 2.4L engines had recalls
  • Faster depreciation than Toyota and Honda
  • Older cars feel dated inside

What should you check before buying a used Sportage?

  • 2.4L engines: run the VIN for open recalls and ask for proof that engine recall work was done.
  • Hybrid: ask for service records and confirm the remaining hybrid warranty.
  • All years: test AWD, read the full Carfax and check the remaining factory warranty, which transfers to the next owner within its limits.

Those are the Sportage-specific items. The general checks for any used car are in my pre-purchase inspection checklist, and before any money moves, run a lien check.

The 2023 and newer Sportage, especially the hybrid, is one of the best-value compact SUVs you can buy used. Older ones are cheap, but only worth it with a clean recall history.
