A used Toyota Highlander in Canada lists for roughly $14,500 to $69,000 in October 2026. The years I'd target are a 2017 to 2019 car at about $21,000 to $36,000.

Which Highlander generation should you buy?
2014 to 2019: the proven family hauler
Three rows, a strong 3.5L V6 and Toyota reliability. The 2017 refresh added an eight-speed automatic and Toyota Safety Sense as standard.
2020 and newer: more refined
The fourth generation is quieter and better inside. The V6 was replaced by a 2.4L turbo for 2023, and the hybrid is the efficient choice.
Highlander pros and cons
What owners like
- Very strong reliability and resale
- Smooth V6 and efficient hybrid

What owners complain about
- Third row is small for adults
- Prices stay high
- Cargo space behind the third row is tight
What should you check before buying a used Highlander?
- Hybrids: ask for a hybrid battery health report and service records.
- V6 models: check for oil leaks and ask for regular oil change records.
- All years: test AWD, fold every seat, read the full Carfax and run the VIN for open recalls.
Those are the Highlander-specific items. The general checks for any used car are in my pre-purchase inspection checklist, and before any money moves, run a lien check.

The Highlander is the safe three-row SUV. A 2017 to 2019 gives you the V6, the eight-speed and the safety tech at a fair price.
