What does a used Toyota RAV4 cost in Canada?

These ranges are built from current average asking prices on CarGurus.ca across Canada, year by year. They cover the bulk of the market: a very high-kilometre car will sit below the range, and a nearly new, dealer-certified one at the top or above it.

Which RAV4 generation should you buy?

2013 to 2018: the simple, durable one

The fourth generation runs a 2.5L four-cylinder with a six-speed automatic. The hybrid arrived for 2016, and the 2016 refresh brought a better cabin and more safety tech. These are plain, honest SUVs that run forever with basic maintenance.

2019 and newer: the one everybody wants

The fifth generation is bigger inside, rides better, and the hybrid version with electric rear-wheel drive is the pick for Canadian winters and fuel bills. The plug-in Prime joined in 2021. Demand is so strong that used prices sit close to new.

RAV4 pros and cons

What owners like

  • Reliability that's hard to match in any SUV
  • Hybrid version uses very little fuel in city driving
  • Holds its value better than almost anything in the segment

What owners complain about

  • Used prices are high because everyone wants one
  • Cabin is noisy at highway speed, especially the gas version
  • Infotainment on 2019 to 2021 feels dated next to rivals

What should you check before buying a used RAV4?

  • 2019 to 2021 hybrid: fill the tank completely. Some owners reported the tank wouldn't fill to its rated capacity, which cuts real range.
  • 2019 and newer gas: pay attention to low-speed shifts from the eight-speed. Some owners find it hesitant pulling away.
  • All hybrids: ask for a hybrid battery health report and service history.
  • All years: read the full Carfax for accident and lien records, and run the VIN through Transport Canada's recall database.

Those are the RAV4-specific items. The general checks for any used car are in my pre-purchase inspection checklist, and before any money moves, run a lien check.

If you want one SUV that won't let you down, this is it. Buy the hybrid if you can, and don't overpay for a gas 2019 just because it's a RAV4: kilometres and history matter more than the badge.

How much is a used Toyota RAV4 in Canada?

In October 2026 a used Toyota RAV4 in Canada typically lists from about $11,000 for a 2013 to 2015 model to about $49,000 for a 2022 to 2025. The best value right now is a 2019 to 2021 car.

Which used RAV4 year is the best value?

A 2019 to 2021 hybrid. You get the current generation and the AWD hybrid system, and the price has come off new money.

Is the RAV4 Hybrid good in Canadian winters?

Yes. The hybrid uses an electric motor to drive the rear wheels, so AWD is standard on the hybrid, and with proper winter tires it handles snow well.

Can you find a Toyota RAV4 for me if I live outside BC?

Yes. The Car Finding Service covers the search, shortlist, inspection, negotiation and paperwork, and the car can be delivered anywhere in Canada. If you already found one, Remote Vehicle Verification sends an inspector to see it in person before you pay.
